Recent guests highlight a clean, modern, and uniquely designed hotel situated conveniently near downtown Portland attractions. While many appreciate the attentive service and stylish rooms, some note quirky design choices and practical limitations.

Guests often praise

  • Central location close to restaurants, shopping, and key attractions, yet surprisingly quiet for downtown.

  • Helpful and attentive staff praised for accommodating special requests and providing excellent service.
  • On-site dining at Vance & Vine Restaurant rated highly for quality and variety.
  • Safe and comfortable environment with a peaceful atmosphere and pleasant views.

Worth knowing

  • Rooms have an industrial, unfinished style with concrete walls and ceilings that can cause echo and may not suit business calls.
  • In-room amenities are basic; no slippers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, or microwaves by default—some guests received microwaves upon request.
  • Parking is available but expensive on-site; alternative nearby parking offers better rates.
  • The front desk area is small and somewhat tucked away within a mixed-use building, which might affect check-in experience.
  • The hotel does not offer an airport shuttle or pool facilities.

Best for

  • Leisure and business travelers seeking modern, stylish accommodations in a lively downtown setting.
  • Guests who value excellent location with access to Portland’s key cultural sites and eateries.
  • Those looking for a pet-friendly, smoke-free hotel with reliable Wi-Fi and fitness facilities.
  • Visitors who appreciate unique, artsy design rather than traditional hotel aesthetics.
  • Individuals who prefer quiet surroundings despite being in the city center.

About this property

Welcome to Hotel Vance, Portland, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Located in downtown Portland at 1455 SW Broadway, Hotel Vance, Portland, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel offers a contemporary urban setting with easy access to local attractions such as the Portland Art Museum, Portland Japanese Garden, and Oregon Zoo. The lively city center nearby features a mix of food trucks, upmarket bistros, and independent shops, making it a convenient base for visitors looking to explore the area.

The hotel’s style is modern and minimalistic, with some guests noting the raw, industrial finishes like exposed concrete walls and ceilings. Rooms provide essential amenities including a coffee maker, mini fridge, and work desk, supporting both leisure and business travelers. While the design choices may feel unconventional—such as unique bathroom tile patterns and an echoey atmosphere—many appreciate the clean, comfortable environment and youthful vibe.

Facilities include a restaurant, a Starbucks cafe, a fitness center, and a bar, alongside practical services like free Wi-Fi, paid breakfast and parking, accessible rooms, and pet-friendly accommodations. Parking rates have been mentioned as relatively high by some guests, though alternatives are available nearby. Room service and a business center add convenience, but there is no airport shuttle or pool on-site.

The property suits guests who prioritize a central location with good access to Portland’s cultural sights and dining options. While the overall guest rating is positive, feedback highlights a mix of opinions on the hotel’s atmosphere and room setup, making it a solid choice for those seeking a clean, modern hotel with unique design elements rather than traditional luxury. Business travelers may find limitations with room acoustics, particularly for virtual meetings.

Hotel Vance is a modern and well-equipped hotel located right near downtown Portland, making it very convenient for sightseeing, shopping, and dining. Its central location is surprisingly quiet, making it suitable for both leisure and business travelers. The rooms are very clean with modern furnishings and a youthful design that matches the energetic vibe of the city. Basic amenities like a coffee maker, mini fridge, and work desk are fully provided. However, a small note for first-time visitors to hotels in the U.S.: like many other places, Hotel Vance does not provide in-room slippers, nor does it offer toothbrushes or toothpaste, so be sure to bring your own personal items if you don’t want to purchase them separately. Overall, it’s a great place to stay — especially if you want clean, convenient, and centrally located accommodations to make the most of your time exploring Portland.

Overall a great stay, and in short would stay here again. Not your typical hotel. The "front desk" is tucked away in the corner of the lobby. This is a joint use building, with offices on one side, class rooms, and a hotel on the other side. The front desk attendant was stand-off-ish, but help full-ish. The rooms, a bit odd. They are "unfinished", so bare concrete walls and ceiling and makes for an echoie room. Not a good place for a business zoom meeting. There is, what looks like a high school locker, the acts as a closet, has a small fridge and coffee maker in it. Not very convenient. The bathroom, is even odder. White subway tiles with red grout. Yup, red grout. Additional, the shower wall has a red tile lobster. To me it looked like a crime scene. The hotel does have a parking garage, and is within walking distance of just about anything you could think of.

Hmmmm where to begin. This hotel was overall a great stay for us. I'll break it down a little: Staff: The staff members were very nice and welcoming. There was always someone at the front desk if needed. No complaints here. I'll give a shout out to Heath though! He was really accommodating for me and my group and just made the experience better with his generosity and hospitality. Thanks again, Heath! Room: The room is a hit or miss depending on what you are looking for. I'll start with the miss. Need a full body mirror? Might be tough. It's attached to the inside of the closet in a not so spacious spot (side of the bed). One glass panel shower...what a mess with this. I get the cost-savings for the hotel to do this but something about water splashing outside the shower that isn't too fun to deal with. Plenty of towels given but still! Beds were pretty clean and a good mixture of firm and soft. TV had the casting feature which was really nice to stream movies during downtimes. Plenty of space to place your bags and takeout food if needed. Overall, it's good but with some small disappointment. Parking/Location: We had the luxury of getting in the garage. A bunch of space down there and the elevator was right there for us to get in and out super quick. The location of the hotel was near alot of food spots. Very convenient! Multnomah Falls was 30 mins. Tillamook was about 1hr and 30 mins. Not too bad! Overall: Would I stay here again? Yea most likely. It wasn't perfect but there wasn't too much to complain about. The staffing made it really nice to stay and it was just a convenient spot in general. It's pricing can be debatable in some cases (Destination Fee alert) but I guess it can be worse. I'd give it a 4.5/5.0. A great stay with some minor jabs at personal preferences.

This place is awesome!!! Artsy, affordable, perfect location. Our room is huge and uniquely designed, the bed is sooo comfortable, the shower is lovely. Through Expedia I paid $250 for two nights. We are super impressed and will totally stay again. Downsides: We did NOT purchase parking here, $50 a night is ridiculous. We parked in a parking garage about a block down, for like $15 overnight. There was no microwave in the room which was inconvenient, we ate cold leftovers. But then the desk told us they could bring one to us, so I wish we knew beforehand that was an option.

Excellent place, very very clean, felt incredibly safe. Great location near plenty of parks, food, transit and entertainment. Don’t stay here if you have tinnitus, the room was so quiet I could only hear the ringing in my ears! The room was lacking a way to heat food but we did receive a microwave to the room upon asking. And while the room was clean and had a peaceful vibe and nice view, the chairs and bed were a bit stiff. Overall a great place though!

I was here on business from NYC for only a few nights and the service was outstanding. The room was very spacious, like a NYC studio! The Vance & Vine Restaurant on the ground level was honestly, one of my best experiences eating inside a hotel. First night had a medium rare burger, which was succulent! On the last day, I went for brunch and had a breakfast protein platter, OUTSTANDING. The server, Danika (I’m sorry if misspelled), was very pleasant and accommodating. I don’t eat pork and she went above and beyond by heading to the kitchen to have chicken sausages made especially for me and my co-worker. I truly enjoyed the food but I appreciated the great customer service more so! The custodial staff/room cleaner Angie was quite pleasant and very kind for providing me with extra towels and checking in to make sure I was good. Will definitely be back and I’ll also recommend Hotel Vance to colleagues and friends!

From the moment I arrived, I was thoroughly impressed by the professionalism and attentiveness of your staff. Everyone was courteous, efficient, and eager to assist, which made me feel welcomed and valued as a guest. The cleanliness of my room was impeccable, creating a comfortable and relaxing environment throughout my stay. Additionally, the view from the hotel was absolutely breathtaking, adding a special touch to my overall experience. The location of Hotel Vance is perfect, providing easy access to many of Portland’s attractions and amenities, which greatly enhanced my visit. Staying at your hotel truly made my experience in Portland ten times better. I cannot recommend Hotel Vance highly enough to anyone planning a trip to the area. Thank you once again for providing such a wonderful stay. I look forward to returning in the future.

It's a nice hotel. It's on the other end of the traditional, slightly stuffy, hotels with very "hip" decor. The room is nice and amazingly has real light fixtures above the desk. One good light is worth 5 lamps. It's walking distance to several restaurants and theirs will be open soon. There are a few markets nearby as well as a Safeway. Google maps will put you by the front door, but the one way streets will have you circle the block for parking. My only gripe is that there's no in-room microwave. I know I can search for that as a requirement, but it's very easy to forget that's not a standard in American hotels above a certain price point. Nevermind that every highway motel will include it.
